Beloved local resident Bonnie Kilburn, of Dorset, Vermont, was diagnosed with Primary Billary Cirrhosis (PBC) in 2002. PBC is a rare liver disease in which the bile ducts in the liver are slowly destroyed. In PBC, the destruction of your bile ducts can cause harmful substances to build up in your liver and sometimes lead to irreversible scarring of the liver tissue (cirrhosis). Because no cure exists for PBC, treatment focuses on slowing the progress of the disease , relieving symptoms, and preventing complications. When treatments no longer control PBC and the liver begins to fail, a liver transplant is needed to prolong life. People with PBC who receive a liver transplant often do very...

Everyone filing a state income tax return this year has an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of Vermont children by giving as little as $1. Line 29b on the State Income Tax Form allows taxpayers to donate any amount directly to the Vermont Children’s Trust Fund (VCTF). 100% of these donations will be funneled to community based prevention programs for kids and families throughout the State.

“This is one of the most direct methods of supporting kids and families in Vermont, and one of the largest sources of prevention money available in the State,” said VCTF executive codirector, Linda Allen. “These funds support statewide prevention programs for children and families...

Since its one-man beginning in 2000, southern Vermont’s preeminent painting company has grown to include over 20 field employees, some of whom possess decades of carpentry and painting experience. Regardless of its size, however, the Luxbrush crew has always been ready to pin Komen’s pink ribbon onto their painter’s whites.

The Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad (LVRS) and the squad’s Rescue Department recently received two grants from Londonderry’s Thrifty Attic.

LVRS responds to almost 500 calls annually and keeping squad members safe and healthy is a critical component of LVRS’s mission. With the help of one Thrifty Attic grant, LVRS has purchased new “High Visibility” duty jackets for all members. These jackets are neon yellow and offer 360° of reflective striping and can be easily and clearly seen at all times and especially at night.

LVRS has also purchased a new...
